Trust. God’s. Route.
When Pharaoh let the people go, God did not lead them on the road through the Philistine country, though that was shorter. For God said, “If they face war, they might change their minds and return to Egypt.” So God led the people around by the desert road toward the Red Sea. The Israelites went up out of Egypt ready for battle [Exodus 13:17–18].
As I lay in bed reading Exodus 13, I feel an overwhelming confidence in the route God is taking us on our individual and collective purposeful journeys. We serve an intentional God who knows what we can and cannot handle. He knows the areas in which we need growth and how to equip us to conquer the battle before us.
I remember when I first graduated from University in 2011 with a degree in Marketing and TV production under my belt, along with a year of International study in the US. I found myself back in London working in jobs that didn’t even require a degree (for two years straight!). I felt embarrassed, worthless, and confused. I questioned God repeatedly:
“God? Why am I here when you told me x,y,z?”
“Why is this season of my life crushing my dreams?”
As I reflect, I can say without reservation that our job description does not determine our destiny. The words God speaks over our lives will not return void. I needed to be humbled and brought to my knees. My false sense of identity had to be destroyed. I needed to develop a new identity, one molded in the image of God. For too long, I was operating according to man’s definition of me. I attached my worth to my title, level of education, and job description. God had to shut that down – QUICKLY. He knew I would not be effective in my calling with that superficial mindset.
Sometimes, we have to go the long route!
The wilderness (desert) prepares women like you and me to do BIG things for the kingdom of God. As painful as it may be at times, it produces purpose; it produces strength; it produces resilience.
Life can be hard but fully embrace your journey! Trust God’s guidance and carry yourself in a way that speaks to that belief. God knows exactly what He is doing.
What steps can you take today to prove you trust God’s route? Is He calling you to move in an area you are too afraid of?
